I’ve written this article for anyone who plays Xbox 360 and is looking for a repair guide to fix common problems.
Since the consoles release concerns over its reliability and failure rate have been reported by users. If you have 4 green lights around your power button then this indicates that your Xbox 360 is operating normally. Three flashing red lights around the power button indicate the Xbox 360 has experienced a failure. This is what is known as the Red Ring of Death or RROD for short.
Common theories as the why RROD occurs are contained:
Heat is excessive. The Xbox 360 is a high powered device and a large amount of heat is created by its components. Your console will heat up if the airflow to your Xbox 360 is blocked, this excessive heat leads to the red ring of death .
Graphics Chip. The graphics chip creates and overheating problem as it was designed in-house and is inefficient and dissipates too much heat.
Solder Joints. Microsoft made the Xbox 360 with lead free solder joints. The lead free solder joints used become brittle when exposed to excessive heat over extended period of time. Once it is brittle this leads to hair-line cracks developing and often the solder joints break.
External Cooling Devises. Some types of intercoolers are reported to lead to hardware failure. The fault occurs as a result of too much power being drained by the peripheral.
Heat Sink Clamp. A flawed heat sink clamp leads to the motherboard flexing.
If the the red ring of death occurs your Xbox 360 is not completely broken. You can fix the red ring of death yourself and be back playing your Xbox 360 in the same day with a repair guide. They are also inexpensive and easy to follow. I have rated what I consider to be the four best repair guides on the market. Check out: Best Repair Guides.
While RROD error is the most common fault of the Xbox 360 other errors do occur. Some of these errors are:
E74 Error
No Video
Xbox Freezing
The above errors are also covered by the guides in Best Xbox Repair Guides
It is important to note that if you do decide to repair you console yourself once you open your Xbox 360 you will void your warranty. If this concerns you the contact Microsoft before buying a repair guide. If you are thinking of buying a repair guide check out: Best Repair Guides.
