A Mage is a great damage dealer who uses mana for his spells. Mages have different types of spells and abilities they use to deal as much possible damage, like Arcane missiles, Frost Bolt and Fire Bolt.
There is a variety of races one can choose if he wants to build up a mage – Human, Gnome and Draenei race (Alliance) and Blood Elf, Troll and Undead race (Horde). A Mage is a nice class to play and is often warmly welcomed by other players in groups and raids. The Mage has several buffs and the most important one is Arcane Brilliance which increases the Intellect of party and raid members. However, the Int buff is just one of the reasons why the Mage class is so popular. Click here to watch the video Mage Guide
A mage is also famous for his “consumables”, meaning he can make food & water for his own purposes and for other players as well. These special “consumables” a Mage can make will restore one’s hp and mana and are always a need. When it comes to the Crowd Control, Mages can Polymorph any Beast or Humanoid creature. Even though, today, the fights in WoW have become much easier (tank ‘n spank), Crowd Control is still nice and useful.
These spells that buff, create and transform are nice but you will probably understand that a Mage has a wide variety of damaging attacks which make him one of the best damage dealing classes in the game. Mage’s spells are based on Frost, Fire and Arcane types of damage. The Arcane talent tree is very interesting because it has become a better talent tree through time. Where previously Arcane was hardly used and if it was used it was usually in combination with the Frost or Fire talent tree, the Arcane talent build is now very nice for both PvE and PvP. The first talent tree you will come across with a Mage is the Arcane tree which nowadays, with some improvements, became more popular. The Fire talent tree has always been seen as the talent tree which should be followed by Mages that look purely at the damage output. Today, Arcane is used for in PvP as well as in PvE and it offers some useful talents that have mana efficiency and improved damage output. When we talk about Mages who are aiming for pure dps, then we are talking about the Fire talent build. The Fire build gives Mages a few very strong damaging spells and a critical strike rating increase, so if you are looking for pure, mostly single target damage, Fire is definitely the perfect choice for your Mage.
If you prefer PvP to PvE, then you should become a Frost mage. This talent tree will offer you many spells with the burst damage, crowd control spells like Slow, and it will also grant you a protective shield. Since you can also stun players and summon a Water Elemental to fight at your side, the Frost tree is great in PvP and also a fun choice for PvE. If you follow the talent build you will find out that the tree can provide you with burst damage and yet give you protective shield and slow your targets a lot.
It might take you some experimenting but once you find the talent tree that suits your style best the Mage class is very nice to play. If you would like more information on WoW guides check out one of our popular guides here: Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide Review
