Ever since the first Guitar Hero hero in 2005, all the games have taken the market by storm, especially Guitar Hero 3. Up until now Guitar Hero have released 10 different games, the first ones being based more on guitars. More recently, with the introduction of Rock Band, Activision has been forced to make the games include a number of instruments.

However, with 3 new games in the pipeline, Guitar Hero are heading to get the edge over Rock Band with the introduction of a different game, without guitars.

Before the end of 2009, Activision are releasing these 3 new Guitar Hero games, Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and DJ Hero. The first one is going to be Guitar Hero 5, this is a standard Guitar Hero game, it features an 85 song set list, as well as the full range of instruments. Activision are also releasing a new controller with this games, the new improved controller will replace their old guitar controller which suffered from some design problems.

Band Hero is the second one, this is pretty much the same as Guitar Hero 5, except it’s more family based. Activision is using this game release as another way to try and get a larger cut of the market, this time, family gaming.

DJ Hero is the final game that they have in the pipeline. This is something that we have never seen in the video game market, and it’s free for Activision to benefit from. The DJ Deck controller is being released with game, it features 3 buttons and 2 slider bars. Because the game is for an entirely new target market, it’s difficult to tell whether the game will be successful. Although, if the game becomes successful, will Activision be releasing a whole new range of Guitar Hero games? Obviously the name would have to be changed from Guitar Hero, like DJ Hero was. Also, if the game is successful, will Harmonix jump on the band wagon and release their own games to steal some of the market away from Activision.

There are a number of new markets that have not yet been targeted by either of the music game manufacturers. One being piano lovers. No doubt a Piano Hero game would be popular because you would get both modern piano players, as well as more classical players who prefer to play grand pianos.

Another possible idea would be a more classical version of Guitar Hero. Classical guitars are hugely popular and by bringing out a video game like Classical Guitar Hero, you would almost be entering a new market because the age of the player would be different to the age of a standard Guitar Hero player.

Those are just a couple of ideas that appeared in my head while writing this, whether or not they will be created is an entirely different matter. It all boils down to whether DJ Hero will be a success for gaming giant Activision. Activision would also have to consider when making a game like Classical Guitar Hero, whether or not it would make any money for them.

These are all factors that would need to be considered before a new game would even go into production, but I would like to see some of these games in the near future.
