Alchemy is a very useful crafting profession in WoW. There are plenty of players out there who chose to skillup Alchemy fast because of its benefits. An alchemist is able to mix, transmute and create various things. With his craft he can produce powerful potions, elixirs and flasks, as well as particular oils and valuable gems, and he can also transmute primals and metal bars. Click here for more on WoW Alchemy
Herbalism – a counterpart to Alchemy
Alchemy and Herbalism are a perfect match. Alchemy is simply dependent on Herbalism since it needs a lot of herbs for its progress.
Alchemy Tools
In order to create flasks, pots and elixirs an Alchemist needs herbs and vials. These vials can be purchased at any Alchemy Supply vendor in any capital city and in many other cities. On higher levels of their skill Alchemists can perform metal transmutations as well as transmutations of certain elemental materials.
In order to perform a transmutation an Alchemist will need a Philosopher’s Stone. This is a special stone created with Alchemy and an Alchemist needs to keep it in his inventory at all times so he would be able to transmute. When used, the Philosopher’s Stone will have a cooldown which will prevent an Alchemist to perform a similar transmutation while the stone is on a cooldown.
Specialities
With a higher alchemy skill, an Alchemist will be able to create some interesting soulbound trinkets. There are three variations of the same trinket depending on his talent build. Healers and casters dps classes go for Mercurial Alchemist Stone, melee dps classes go for Mighty Alchemist’s Stone and tanks go for Indestructible Alchemist’s Stone. These trinkets will increase the amount of health and mana you are able to receive from potions by amazing 40%. With WOTLK expansion a new rule has been set that a player can only use one pot per fight and this is why Alchemist’s Stone trinkets are very handy, especially if you are a mana consumer.
Another useful thing an Alchemist has is the duration of his flasks. In normal circumstances a flask effect will last one hour. However, for any Alchemist flasks last for 2h! This can save a lot of gold and it is very practical.
Alchemy Specs
At a higher level an Alchemist needs to choose his spec. These specs are Potion master, Elixir master and Transmute master. By choosing one of these he will be able to occasionally create extra potions, elixirs or an extra transmute.
Alchemist’s discoveries
While transmuting an Alchemist will also occasionally discover a new transmute. Same goes for the pots and elixirs. With WOTLK expansion Alchemists got Northrend Alchemy Research which allows them to discover new recipes. NAR has a cooldown of 3 days. To start a research an Alchemist will require Adder’s Tongue, Goldclover and Talandra’s Rose. Apart from these herbs an Alchemist needs to provide four Enchanted Vials found at any Alchemy Supply vendor in the Northrend area.
Flasks vs. Elixirs
Both flasks and elixirs have a longer lasting effect on its consumer. When it comes to elixirs you can combine only Battle and Guardian types of elixirs. Any elixir will have a one hour effect but its effect will be lost if a player dies. Flasks also last for one hour but their effect will continue even after the player’s death.
